New Year's day in Colombo was great. My mother and I went to The Gallery Café to meet my cousin for lunch and check out the artful shops of Paradise Road. The Gallery Café is part restaurant, part... gallery. Wait, that's explaining the obvious a bit isn't it?
In addition to a fantastic restaurant, there is a small Paradise Road shop at the Gallery Café that feature locally crafted items. (Another larger Paradise Road is just up the street.) The gallery, which runs throughout the shops and restaurant, features a revolving exhibit of contemporary works by Sri Lankan artists.
The restaurant is open-air, and the menu featured a lot of local, organic food items - all freshly made.
Our meal took almost an hour to arrive... Was it worth it? Without question. I ordered a baked crab dish that was amazing. My cousin ordered a jaggery Crème brûlée - more on what jaggery is will come in a later post. But the food was excellent, as was the atmosphere.
Oh yeah. The company was pretty awesome too.
Art... ambience...family... awesome food? Totally not my scene. ;)
