While staying in Trincomalee we went around to some of the local sites, one of which my aunt remembered visiting as a child: Kanniya Hot Springs.
I don't remember what this sign says, but Sinhala and Tamil are both beautiful languages, aren't they?
Years ago, the springs used to bubble up from the ground, but the site has since been fancied up. Each spring has a different temperature and the legend dictates that if you step from one well to the next, you will be cured of any ailments.
The site has been home to a series of Buddhist temples over the years.
A series of steps lead you down to the water. Buckets are placed around each well, so you can draw from each one with ease.
Uncle Les at the well.
A dog relaxes in the shade...
As we left the springs, we got caught in a Sri Lankan traffic jam.
Next stop? Trincomalee's WWII war memorial.
