After meandering our way down the coastline, we finally found ourselves at Galle Fort.
Galle Fort is "the finest and most intact fortified city build by the former European colonial powers in Asia."
If you should ever travel there, make sure to give yourself ample time to explore. We had only a few hours over the afternoon, and it was not nearly enough to successfully navigate the scope of what you can find there.
By the time we arrived it was well into the afternoon and quite a hot day - even by local standards.
We wandered through the streets, ducking into old shops and mini-"museums" filled with a mix of tourist-trap exhibits and interesting artifacts from the colonial occupation.
After exploring the inner part of the city, we walked along the rampart walls as the waves crashed against the sea.
Hot and tired after a very long day, we left Galle Fort and headed up the new expressway back to Colombo.
