One of my favorite parts of the trip was our visit to Kandy. Unfortunately it was also the shortest - but we made the most of our time there. The night we arrived, we attended a traditional Kandyan Dance, hosted by the Kandyan Art Association & Cultural Centre.
The city of Kandy is one of the most beautiful cities in the world - inside and out - and is considered the "cultural capital of Sri Lanka." The arts association and cultural centre was no exception, and the dance they presented was beautiful and lively.
Performers acted out many of the traditional Sri Lankan dances - including the mask dances.
After the main dances, they dimmed the lights and fire artists performed in front of the stage.
The performance was a really great introduction to Sri Lankan dance - and especially after my visit to Ambalangoda Ambalangonda, it was wonderful to see Sri Lankan masks "in action."
