Happy Sunday, everybody. I don't usually blog on Sunday. Not as a rule, necessarily - just circumstantially.
And while Church Scenes and Bar Scenes might seem like a weird mix, I thought it would make for a pretty good Sunday morning view. Especially for those of us here in Northeast Minneapolis, where the Church vs. Bar issue has made recent news.
We went to several churches while in Ireland - some that didn't allow photography (understandable) and others that did.
St Patrick's did...
There are so many other places people consider a "sanctuary" these days. But it's interesting to think about a time where church was a standalone. In our area of Northeast Minneapolis, we have over 50 churches. What sets one apart from the other, aside from sect and architecture? Community?
Even with only a few photos, it's not hard to see what set St. Patrick's apart.
Almost every bar we went to had memorabilia. Older marketing posters, signage, beautiful old Guinness bottles...
Sanctuary comes in several forms.

Nature reclaiming its role as sanctuary over time...
Upon entering the bar, we noticed ourselves in the reflection across the hallway. Click!
After examining the posters below closely, I'm fairly certain they were the original drawings. Note the lack of text and note the signatures. Though it's hard to tell from the photos - the quality and application of the color made me think they were original...
In a dark basement bar, I was trying to photograph a Guinness coaster that was catching the light in an interesting way. A guy at the next table saw me and tried to take a picture of me taking a picture... but not before I saw him see me, and snapped a photo simultaneously. This is what happens when two Canons collide over a pint.
Happy Sunday, everybody.
